Frequently Asked Questions for HVAC & Electrical Service
Your Trusted HVAC Service and Electrician in Mississippi
At SI Service Group, we understand that issues with your home's systems can be complex. We provide expert guidance on everything from hvac service to electrical service repairs for homeowners and businesses in Tupelo, Fulton, Corinth, New Albany and Amory, MS. Below are answers to some common questions we receive.
Should I repair or replace my HVAC system?
Deciding whether to repair or replace your HVAC unit is a significant consideration. Several factors influence this decision, including the system's age, its repair history, the manufacturer's reliability, and the type of refrigerant it uses. As a system approaches 12 years of age, one must be cautious about expensive repairs, particularly those involving refrigerant leaks. If the unit has been well-maintained and a repair costs less than $750, it may be a viable option. However, if your system uses the older R-22 refrigerant and is leaking, replacement is often the most sensible long-term solution due to the high cost and environmental concerns associated with R-22.
Why is a professional air conditioning installation so important?
A professional air conditioning installation is critical for the efficiency and longevity of your system. An improperly installed unit can lead to poor performance, frequent breakdowns, and higher energy bills. Our certified technicians ensure that every installation is performed to the highest standards, guaranteeing optimal performance from day one. This includes correct sizing of the unit for your space, proper ductwork connections, and precise refrigerant charging.
What services does a residential electrician provide?
A qualified electrician from SI Service Group handles a wide array of electrical needs for your home. This includes troubleshooting electrical problems, upgrading electrical panels, installing new lighting fixtures, and ensuring your home's wiring is safe and up to code. Whether you need a simple repair or a complete home rewiring, our professional electrician is equipped to manage the job safely and efficiently. We also specialize in Commercial refrigeration.
What are the signs that I need heating system repair?
Recognizing the need for heating system repair can prevent major failures during cold weather. Key indicators include unusual noises from your furnace, a pilot light that is yellow instead of blue, inconsistent heating throughout your home, or a sudden increase in your energy bills. If you notice any of these signs, it is imperative to contact a professional for a thorough inspection and repair to ensure your system operates safely and effectively.
What should I look for in a home comfort system provider?
When selecting a company for your home comfort needs, look for a reputable, well-trained, and responsive team. While there are many equipment brands, the quality of the installation and service company is what truly matters. At SI Service Group, we have extensive experience with all major manufacturers. We provide reliable service, handle warranties efficiently, and hold ourselves accountable for delivering superior results, from simple repairs to a complete new air conditioning installation.
Our industry is going through constant efficiency changes due to the EPA and multi national agreements that address climate change. Every new benchmark that is agreed upon ends up costing you the customer money, there are new refrigerants being manufactured that are less harmful to the ozone that manufacturers must adopt their equipment to work with.
There are only about 8 mainstream manufacturers left, there may be thirty brand names, but those are just decals. I have had experience with every one of them, 10 years of repairing, getting tech support, filing warranties, dealing with defects, holding manufacturers accountable and holding home owners accountable.
Here is what you should look for: A very good, well trained responsive HVAC company, remember what I said there are only 8 manufacturers, yes equipment is important, I love both my AMANA brand and TRANE brands, but they each fill different needs for me and the consumer, Trane has a long history of dependable, innovative equipment and it has a reputation and a name that people want to pay for.
Many factors go into determining the size of the system. Including the type of house and walls, type and size of windows, insulation, basement and attic conditions, house orientation, and so on. A comfort consultant must visit the house and take detailed measurements. With these measurements, the comfort consultant can perform a performance load calculation in order to assure proper system size. A system that is too large will cool or heat your house quickly, but you may not feel comfortable. That’s because it will satisfy the thermostat before it can adequately remove sufficient moisture from the air during the cooling mode, leaving you feeling sticky and humid. This could even lead to moisture and mold problems. And, the stress of short-cycling (too many starts and stops) will shorten the life of your equipment and increase your heating and cooling bills. On the other hand, a system that is too small just cannot get the job done, especially in extreme weather conditions. The air conditioner will constantly run in the summer and the furnace will do the same in winter. But a correctly sized system isn’t just based on the size of the structure.
Maintenance is generally scheduled to maintain peak efficiency, help keep utility bills lower, extend the life of your HVAC system, and avert failures. HVAC system(s) are usually installed where they normally are not seen, such as in a section of the basement, a closet, on rooftops, behind/side the of the house, or in mechanical rooms, making them easy to ignore but without proper air flow these systems can fail prematurely. The systems are simply taken for granted, until they fail. Decreased efficiency, utility overpayment, discomfort, loss of productivity, premature replacement, and higher repair costs are the result.
We offer: Annual Inspection Fee (1 system) $165 <> Semi-Annual maintenance Fee (1 system) $350 <> Each additional system $85
